Now -read the book!

Here is a link to my memoirs which, if you are a glutton for punishment, you can purchase online at https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/an-obscure-footnote-in-trade-union-history.
Men fight and lose the battle, and the thing that they fought for comes about in spite of their defeat, and when it comes turns out not to be what they meant, and other men have to fight for what they meant under another name. (William Morris - A Dream of John Ball)

UNISON National Executive Council elections - under starter's orders...

I’ve just sent out my request for nominations in the forthcoming elections to UNISON’s National Executive Council (NEC).
Nominations open on Monday 12 January and close on Friday 20 February (at 5pm). All the necessary forms can be downloaded from the UNISON website.
The election procedures document can also be downloaded as a pdf – this includes the handy reminder that no UNISON resources can be used to campaign (hence this and any other blog posts which I write about the elections won’t have used any UNISON resources).
I will blog more later about the issues in the election. For the moment, I think it is important that all UNISON activists do all we can to maximise turnout in the elections, in which I hope that as many members as possible will be presented with a democratic choice.
One note of caution to eager readers – branches cannot make valid nominations outside the nominating period, so anyone with a Branch Committee meeting this week will have to wait for their next meeting before making nominations.
