Men fight and lose the battle, and the thing that they fought for comes about in spite of their defeat, and when it comes turns out not to be what they meant, and other men have to fight for what they meant under another name. (William Morris - A Dream of John Ball)

Solidarity with the NUJ at the BBC - no compulsory redundancies!

With no Today programme to listen to I'll try an early blog post to try to cope with the loss!

And what better than to send solidarity with the NUJ strikers who have disrupted essential early morning listening in opposition to compulsory redundancies (http://www.nuj.org.uk/innerPagenuj.html?docid=2815).

However deep the cuts we face, there is almost always something more that can be done to avert compulsory redundancies.

I think we need to see more such action since, even before the Government's attack on redundancy consultation rights (http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/mobileweb/2012/12/18/government-confirms-redundancy-consultation-period-cuts_n_2321074.html) we are only seeing change to employers' redundancy proposals through consultation in a little over one in five cases across the economy as a whole (http://www.jonrogers1963.blogspot.com/2013/01/redundancies-could-we-do-better.html?m=1).

This, from the NUJ, is what you can do -

- Visit your local picket line to show solidarity.

- Send messages of support by emailing: campaigns@nuj.org.uk

- Tweet your messages of support with the hashtag - #BBCStrike

- Email the BBC Trust to tell them you support the strike to stop the cuts

trust.enquiries@bbc.co.uk or if you would like to make a general comments or ask a question about the BBC you can call 03700 100 222; textphone 03700 100 212

- Ask your local MP to sign the BBC redundancies early day motion (http://www.parliament.uk/edm/2012-13/1071) - you can contact your MP online (http://www.writetothem.com/).
